  • Clare Glazebrook and John Surry retired from the committee of the Bridport Film Society after a combined 50 years of service to the award-winning local community group. At the final screening of this season's programme at the Bridport Arts Centre, the members of the society presented Clare and John with thank you gifts to recognise their long service and dedication. John will enjoy a special edition DVD box set of films from the British Film Institute while Clare received two DVD box sets of Robert Bresson films.
The Bridport Film Society's 45th season will begin in September at the Bridport Arts Centre. Information at www.bridportfilmsociety.co.uk
  • Swindon Film Society has been using its programme to make local partnerships with charitable organisations. The scheme most recently featured a screening of ‘Age of Stupid’ as a joint venture with SCAN (Swindon Climate Action Network). Past partnerships have included ‘In Prison My Whole Life’ with Amnesty, a screening of ‘Black Gold’ as part of Fair Trade Fortnight and ‘We Are Together’ in conjunction with Swindon Cultural Partnerships.
Barbara Thompson of Swindon Film Society says: “This has been a very eventful and useful time for us. Working with partners shares the workload, increases the publicity and reaches new audiences. And of course we get to see more excellent films.” www.swindonfilm.co.uk
  • Looe Film Society's 'Cinema by the Sea' has successfully started showing film shows at its new venue. The venue, a new Community Hall in Looe Children's Centre, sees a much bigger screen, high definition digital projection, full surround sound, high grade blackouts and much more comfortable seating. www.looefilmsociety.org.uk
  • It is with great sadness that BFFS announce the death of former chairman of Bracknell Film Society, John Woodgate who died peacefully in hospital on 17th April surrounded by his family.
John was not only a founder member of the Bracknell Film Society - he was the prime instigator and Chairman for nearly 40 years. Friend and colleague Hugh Devonald recalls, ‘Without John it is doubtful if there would ever have been a film society in Bracknell.’
John will be sadly missed by members of the Bracknell Film Society. BFFS extend our condolences to his family.
