- Film societies looking to improve their online presence could turn to The Community Website Builder, for free support in setting up and maintaining their websites. The service requires no previous programming skills, and is open to all registered UK charities, non-profit making organisations and volunteer led groups or organisations. Run by BT Better World and Recipero Limited, the project is ideal for film societies either looking to start a website from scratch, or even just update their current web presence.
Check out the project’s website www.communitykit.co.uk for full details on how to apply for support.
- Global Datapoint, the providers of listing content to G-Cap Media, Visit London, Qype, Wozzon, Trinity Mirror Group and many others would like to offer film societies and community cinemas the chance to promote all films which are open to the general public in the same way as any professional cinema.
If you are interested in having your future programme promoted in this way (for free!), forward all the details to Daniel.agnew@globaldatapoint.com
Please note that closed screenings (members only) cannot be listed.
Global Datapoint are also interested in hearing from mobile cinema groups and films festivals who would like to have their events promoted in the future.
- Film London will be hosting two training days later this month with the aim of widening the use of archive footage in community and outreach cinemas. The first session on Thursday the 17th of September is titled ‘An Introduction to Finding and Using Archive Film in London’ and will feature special presentations from The British Film Institute, the Imperial War Museum and London Metropolitan Archives. Funding advice from Film London and the Archive Lottery Adviser at the National Council on Archives will also be available on the day.
The session on Thursday the 24th of September is titled ‘Working with Archvie Film in Community and Outreach Projects’ and will target specific strategies that film societies can use to engage a range of audiences and interest groups using specific archive material. No prior knowledge is required for either session, and both events run from 10am to 4pm at the Birkbeck Cinema in central London.
