BFFS Yorkshire regional group home page
Yorkshire was originally part of the North Regional Group of the BFFS which was set up in April 1955 following a meeting in Wakefield chaired by Margaret Hancock who was then Hon. Sec. of the Federation.
In the late 1960s the Wilson government set up the Regional Arts Associations and the BFFS decided to reorganise and expand the number of Regional Groups to coincide with the boundaries of the RAAs, and the BFFS Yorkshire Regional Group came into existence in the summer of 1975.
The Yorkshire Group has always been one of the most active of the regional Groups; we were the first to set up a ‘block-booking scheme’ to help societies cut down film booking costs.
We have organised many events and viewing sessions over the years and have also hosted a number of national events, most recently the 2005 National Autumn Viewing Sessions in Sheffield.
For the past 20 years we have produced an annual Group Brochure publicising the programmes of the societies in the region and helping to raise the profile of film societies generally.
We had excellent relations with the Yorkshire Art Association and now with Screen Yorkshire and play an active part in regional film activities.
