The Gift 2005/9 mins The Gift is the story of a young girl who rescues a seal and visits the sea prince in his underwater palace. She is very happy until one night she dreams of home. The lonely prince, sad to see her go, gives her a beautiful mysterious shell. Back home, she discovers she has been away many years, her family have gone and the house is overgrown. In desperation she returns to the beach and opens the shell. She discovers that it contains the gift of time…
The animation is drawn in sand, which creates fluid fragile images expressing the sense of transience and time lost. The Gift was commissioned by Channel Four in association with Scottish Screen. It has been shown on Channel Four (Christmas 2006) and selected for numerous international film festivals, including Edinburgh, Berlin, Zagreb, Hiroshima, Rio de Janeiro and Palm Springs, Los Angeles. It is suitable for adult and young audiences.
