BFFS Training events
BFFS supports training events at a national, regional and local level.
- National training events: these are useful enhancements to events with a different primary focus (viewings, educational events) but are ancillary to the core of BFFS Training policy, which is based on achieving maximum public value by developing community cinema skills as broadly as possible.
- Regional training events: for hands-on training it is hard to beat regional gatherings, which offer the best balance between local benefit, minimised travel cost and regional cross-fertilisation. BFFS will be working with its regional groups to ensure that regional training events form part of future provision.
- Local training events: 'local' can mean sub-regional as well as local to one film society. It is distinctly possible that hands-on training events can be mounted effectively at sub-regional level, especially in regions which are geographically dispersed, and events will be offered on this basis. However, truly local training events - involving one or a small group of societies - are difficult to organise in any other way but locally. Here, BFFS's policy is to support self-training by the provision of distance learning packages, which ask a society's activists to work together to collectively develop, for example, business skills, or programming skills. BFFS is actively seeking financial support for developing such packages. Using such a package, a training 'event' becomes a self-paced training process, in which any number can participate.
