Who we are

BFFS is a registered charity governed by a board of trustees and is a company limited by guarantee. It consists of

  • The Management Committee (ManCom), comprising BFFS trustees and representatives of BFFS regional groups and student group, which meets two or three times a year to consider and make decisions on strategic issues. All voting members of ManCom are volunteers
  • The Board of Trustees, with the legal responsibility of governance, which meets four times a year.
  • The Executive Committee, with the delegated responsibility of delivery. Current membership:
    • BFFS Chair, David Miller
    • BFFS Vice-Chair, Ian Kerr
    • BFFS Treasurer, Jim Dempster
    • BFFS SW Group representative, Brian Clay
    • Advocacy/Strategy consultant, Julia Vickers
    • Publications/Education consultant, John Salisbury.
  • BFFS Office, run by full-time administrator Ros Hill.
  • To deliver defined projects, BFFS uses the services of consultants to provide a range of skills. Currently these are:
    • Strategy/Advocacy consultant - Julia Vickers
    • Publications/Education consultant - John Salisbury
    • Advice/Support consultant - Jim Barratt.
  • The BFFS President is renowned film critic and author Derek Malcolm
  • BFFS also has the benefit of four Vice Presidents with illustrious careers in the moving image and who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the organisation:
    • Sid Brooks
    • Peter Cargin
    • John Chittock
    • Alan Howden
All the rest of the work is done by volunteers, at regional and local level.

BFFS is funded by the UK Film Council.
