Why BFFS matters
BFFS matters because of what it does, day in and day out. The things we do keep the film society movement going. If a group wants to start a film society, we offer help, and if an existing society needs assistance, we'll do whatever we can. We take and answer inquiries about equipment, getting hold of films, and issues of legality. We hold a library of film posters, and lend them out. We have sets of loan equipment all over the country, accessible through BFFS group representatives. And we disseminate information about every aspect of the film society movement, as widely as possible. We operate block-booking schemes which save participating film societies a great deal of work, and we offer regional viewing sessions, where you can get a preview of films you might want to show. We spread the news about important events through Newsreel and through this website, and we recognise, publicly, the great achievements of film societies and their members throughout the land. Behind the scenes we do other things, which may have a less direct impact on individual societies, but which are important all the same. We talk to the UKFC, bfi and other national bodies to try to make sure that you get the continuing support you need. We talk to the film industry, to try to iron out problems, and to get advantageous deals for film societies. We develop, and operate, strategies to try and ensure the long-term cohesion and stability of the film society movement, and we work at the international level, to obtain information about good practice in other countries, and apply it here, for your benefit. Your film society matters to BFFS. We hope BFFS matters to you. |
